Space Exploration Technologies Corp., popularly known as SpaceX, is one of the most influential aerospace manufacturers and space transportation companies in the world. Since its founding in 2002 by Elon Musk, the company’s visual identity, including its logo, has evolved to reflect its mission, innovation, and futuristic approach. The SpaceX logo has gone through just one change over the years, and the article explores the same in detail, along with other information about the company.
The Genesis of the SpaceX Logo (2002)
When SpaceX was founded in 2002, its first logo featured the brand name written using a bold and slightly futuristic serif typeface in grey with a metallic gradient. This gave the wordmark a high-tech and industrial look. The most distinctive element of this logo was the extended, swooping “X” comprising three wide blue stripes that resembled a rocket’s trajectory.
Below the brand name was a thin horizontal line underneath which was the phrase “SPACE EXPLORATION TECHNOLOGIES” in red and in a smaller size compared to the brand name above. This logo conveyed the company’s ambitious goals of pioneering space travel.

(2002 – Present)
In 2007, SpaceX decided to modernise its visual identity. The logo was redesigned to feature a more minimalistic, sans-serif typeface with a clean and sleek design. Besides, the letter “A” had no left side and the top horizontal stroke of the letter “E” was missing. The most notable element was the stylised “X”, which had a curved, elongated line that represented the ascent of a spacecraft. This iteration of the logo emphasised innovation and a streamlined vision for the future of space travel.

2026: New SpaceXAI Logo, A Subsidiary of SpaceX
A new logo has been long overdue for SpaceXAI. In February 2026, Elon Musk announced that SpaceX would acquire xAI, a company he founded, creating a unified brand called SpaceXAI. The merger was complete by March, and xAI was no longer an independent entity.
SpaceXAI is now a subsidiary of SpaceX, with the social media platform X and the AI chatbot Grok in its product portfolio. In July 2026, SpaceXAI’s new logo was finally unveiled to the public.
It is a clever amalgamation of the SpaceX and xAI logos, as you can see in the image below.

For the unversed, this is what the old xAI logo looked like when it was a separate company:

The new SpaceXAI logo signifies the integration of advanced AI efforts with aerospace technology. The acquisition also shifts the company’s focus to new goals, such as building the technological infrastructure to support the flourishing of the AI ecosystem.
The Elements of the SpaceX Logo
Font
The SpaceX logo features futuristic uppercase lettering designed in a custom extended sans-serif font. It is characterised by unique cutouts and modifications. While the exact font is proprietary, fonts like Bank Gothic Std Medium and Morris Sans Std Medium share similarities with the SpaceX logo’s typography. However, there are significant alterations to the contours of the letters.
Colour
The colour palette of SpaceX’s visual identity combines midnight blue and metallic silver to symbolise professionalism, reliability, and innovation. These colours reflect the company’s progressive approach and commitment to technological advancement, confidence, and cutting-edge solutions in aerospace engineering.
Finally
The evolution of the SpaceX logo reflects the company’s journey from an ambitious startup to a global leader in space technology. From the metallic, industrial-style logo of 2002 to the sleek, futuristic design of today, the logo change has aligned with the milestones of SpaceX and its vision for the future.
