The Genesis of the Allen Solly Logo
Early Days: A Tribute to British Roots
Founded in 1744 by William Hollin and Co. Ltd., the origins of Allen Solly lie in Britain. It featured a combination of two animals: a ram and a stag. The ram symbolised the British woollen industry, a cornerstone of Allen Solly’s products. The stag, on the other hand, paid homage to the birthplace of the brand, Nottingham, a city known for its association with stag.
Another logo that many are familiar with features an ellipse with two thin borders marked in red. At the centre of the ellipse was written the brand name “Allen Solly” in a cursive style. Rendered in white and in title case, the brand name was set against an indigo background for better visibility. At the periphery of the ellipse and within the inner and outer borders, the texts “ESTABLISHED 1744” and “NOTTINGHAM ENGLAND” were mentioned at the top and bottom, respectively.

A New Inning: Modernity with a Nod to Heritage
When Madura Garments, an Indian company, acquired Allen Solly in the 1990s, the brand began to cater to the Indian market. This necessitated that the logo be redesigned to cater to Indian sensibilities. Thus, while the ram disappeared, the stag remained, albeit in a more stylized form. This streamlined design retained a connection to the brand’s history while presenting a more modern face.
The Allen Solly Logo of Today
The focus of the current logo has subtly moved away from the animal imagery, with the brand name “Allen Solly” taking centre stage.
