The Genesis of the Agricultural Bank of China Logo (1973 – 1988)
The original logo of the Agricultural Bank of China featured the name of the bank in traditional Chinese hieroglyphics. Written in black on a white background, the visual identity of the bank highlighted its Chinese heritage to the fullest.

(1988 – Present)
Designed by Chen Hanming, the logo iteration of 1988 depicted the stylised image of a spike in green against a white background. The upper part of the spike is straightened and comes with a rectangular shape. It is further enclosed within a thick circular frame. Interestingly, there is no wordmark in the logo design. The colour green is in alignment with the “agricultural” aspect of the bank and symbolises growth, wealth, and success.

(1988 – 2009)
In 1988, the logo redesign consisted of two parts. The previous “spike” emblem appears in green on the left and the name of the institution, both in Chinese (black) and English (green), is mentioned in two levels on the right. The English wordmark is written using a clean sans-serif typeface, which is similar to Nimbus Sans Bold and Corporate S SC Bold. The widened letters of the wordmark looked both contemporary and powerful.

(2009 – Present)
The 2009 logo version, which continues to this day, has retained the green “spike” emblem on a white background. However, the brand name in both Chinese and English was written in a slightly bigger size in a bold, black colour palette.
