The celluloid tape in the emblem represented movies and emphasised Netflix’s online presence by incorporating “.com” into the design.

During this period, Netflix was primarily focused on competing with traditional rental services like Blockbuster. The logo design effectively communicated its mission to provide convenient access to films via the internet, which was an innovative approach at the time.

In an attempt to modernise and reflect a shift in its business strategy towards unlimited rentals, Netflix introduced a new logo in 2000. This iteration was characterised by a black oval badge stretched horizontally and flanked by yellow brackets.
